I may sound old-fashioned, but you should NEVER ask a boy out first!!!!!!!!!! NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd go the way of dropping not-so-subtle hints. Or wait till he asks you.
Also, don't worry about the dream thing- it probably is just some deeply buried fears that are surfacing in your subconscious in the form of dreams.
